Yes, that’s what our latest starting XI, against a “new look” Westham United team, looked like! It was going to be one of another shameful outing or another drubbing of a midtable team, or so we all thought; although at the end of the day neither happened.
Well to begin with, the outstanding Rafael , yeah you read that right, would have slept like baby as he himself pointed out post-match. He was a joy to watch on the right wing all 90 minutes. Whether attacking or defending, and although he did get quality support from the equally brilliant Herrera, he still had pretty much to do and Shaw (who had a good debut but ended the match with a black eye from a Sakho “headbutt”) would probably prefer having Di Maria in front of him. Paddy McNair also did a great job on his debut especially with THAT diving header!
Rooney and van Persie scoring on the 5th and 12th minutes respectively did ok, -the former being sent off on the hour, for an unnecessary crude tackle- and i honestly thought the flood gates were going to open because Westham were not showing any signs of parking anything; but our greatest undoing came to the fore AGAIN. As our defenders seemed to not know what to do with a Downing corner, the ball danced around , the front of De Gea’s goal only for Sakho to nod home. Westham could have leveled immediately after Rooney’s opener but Enner Valencia,one on one with DDG somehow lost his head and pooof…the ball was sent to the stands!
After our captain’s dismissal, we were left to fight for a win as fans, me for instance ‘had series of heart attacks’, and Kevin Nolan with a goal at the death that was correctly ruled offside rather sparked jubilations here. We are going to miss Rooney but it is an opportunity for Mata to step in and we can only hope he grabs it by the scruff of the neck. Rooney would miss matches against Everton, Westbrom and Chelski, and should be back for the derby against Citeh. Just one stat tobe excited with, Falcao managed just one assistin 3 years at Atletico, he’s got 2 in 3apps for us. Maybe Mata should be afraid!…looool
